Teaching Sermon Series Covers the Basics of the Faith
At Ascension, we have recently started a teaching/sermon series called The How and Why of Being Lutheran. This 12-week series takes a look at some of the very basic teachings of our faith, and applies them to our daily lives. Along with scripture, we will be using a wonderful teaching resource for Lutherans (which is based on scripture) called Luther’s Small Catechism. The basic "building blocks" of our faith will be examined, not in a theoretical way, but in a way that will help participants grow spiritually by applying these great truths to their lives. Each Sunday this will be the focus of our worship, and each Thursday, we will follow up with a slightly different emphasis on what we studied the previous Sunday. The series begins with a three-week study of The Ten Commandments. Other topics include The Apostle's Creed, The Lord's Prayer, and the sacraments. A free Small Catechism is available for anyone who attends, so it is possible to do personal study as an individual, in conjunction with this series.
For those who are life-long Lutherans, this series can serve as a great refresher course. And for those new to Christianity or Lutheranism, it can be a very good way to grasp some of the basic teachings of our faith. Everyone is welcome at Ascension, so come join us, and bring a friend!
